Homelessness and addictions are issues that impact our community. Most people in Red Deer care about these issues, and we believe that it is important to show our support for those who are in need.
The reasons people are homeless* are as varied as the people themselves. Homelessness results from a complex set of circumstances that may include: domestic violence, housing that's too expensive, the loss of a job, substance abuse, mental illness, or a lack of significant relationships.
Homeless individuals and families include: children, youth, adults, and seniors. Homelessness affects both people who are new to our community and long-term residents.
* In Red Deer the definition of homelessness is "Those who do not have safe, affordable, appropriate, permanent housing to which they can return whenever they choose." http://reddeeranddistrictcommunityfoundation.ca/initiatives/ending-homelessness-initiative
